Military Pay Chart 1985

1985 US Military Basic Pay Charts

On December 28, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Executive Order 12496 which implemented the pay authorization of Public Law 98-525, the Department of Defense Authorization Act, 1985, providing for a 4% pay raise for all military members not serving in Pay Grade E-1 (with less than 4 months).

Previous to Public Law 98-525, the time spent in the Delayed Entry Program counted toward longevity for pay purposes, but after the law's passage, those entering would be denied credit for time spent in the DEP when computing basic pay.

The Navy active duty end-strength total, officer and enlisted, for 1985 was 570,705.

The United States military pay scales below became effective on January 1, 1985 and continued to be in effect until December 31, 1985. It is the basic pay amounts for the active components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard.

The pay rates are monthly, US dollar.

NOTE 2. The Chief of Naval Operations pay remains $5724.90, regardless of time in service. Basic pay is limited the Level V of the Executive Schedule.
