Military Pay Chart 2010

2010 US Military Basic Pay Charts

On December 19, 2009, the Senate passed and President Obama signed into law, the appropriations bill to pay for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 that the president signed back on October 28, 2009, which stated, "Increase in Basic Pay Effective on January 1, 2010, the rates of monthly basic pay for members of the uniformed services are increased by 3.4 percent."
The 2010 pay raise amount, as a point of interest, effects those enlisted personnel who will hit the 30 year high year tenure (HYT) mark as those members are the last to have joined under the "final pay" retirement system.

President Obama had released in his budget, on May 7, 2009, a military pay raise proposal of 2.9% for 2010. The raise amount utilized the same methodology of the previous administration of using the Employment Cost Index (ECI) published by the Department of Labor. As in previous years, congress increased the amount by a half percent, and as stated above, the president agreed to the increase.

The following basic pay charts are showing a 3.4% raise for 2010 based on the approved 2010 defense budget, and the rates are monthly amounts rounded to the nearest US dollar.

Military pay in the United States is distributed on the 1st and 15th day of the month. If the 1st or 15th fall on a weekend or national holiday payment will be made the working day prior. These base pay scales are for active and reserve components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard.

Note: The US military has various pays which are not included these pay tables. They include, but not limited to, Submarine Duty Pay, Hazardous Duty, Imminent Danger Pay (Combat Pay), Sea Pay, Flight deck, Special Duty Pay (SDAP). You must be assigned in an available billet in the required field/location to draw additional pay status. "Pays" are taxable. The US military also has various allowances such as Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), Cost of living Allowance (COLA) and Clothing Allowance just to name a few. "Allowances" are NOT normally taxed. The rates reflect a monthly pay amount and are rounded to the nearest US dollar ($).
