The long war

When your perspective of the world is limited to your own backyard it is no wonder... How about a little history on how we got to where we are currently in Iraq. Iran and Iraq were in a seemingly endless war. In about 1982 Irans government got the idea to end the war by convincing hundreds of thousands of boys and men 13yrs old and up to join the military - they were given no guns or weapons. They were told to over run the front lines of the Iraqi troops in waves until they ran outta ammo or fled out of fear. Hundreds of thousands died, Iran even created a monument to them, a fountain of blood in the middle of the capital. Irans government stated God was on their side and it was now their intention to take over the entire middle east, they gathered up to a million of these non-armed waves of people and then started attacking any and all ships in the Persian gulf - it was then the US realized action must be taken. Money and arms were supplied to Iraq and the US Navy started to protect shipping in the gulf. Iran finally agreed to the cease fire Iraq asked for a couple of years before. One of the by products of this evolution was the greater empowerment of Sadam and he kept increasing his military despite the hardships of his people until 1991 when he invaded Kuwait. After Kuwait was liberated he continued to rattle his sabors and defy the UN. Then Sept 11, 2001 extremist muslims attacked our soil and we invaded Afghanistan and put the world on notice that terror will be fought on the soil of those who harbour terror putting into motion the events of today. The world is becoming a much smaller place and rather you want to believe it or not there are groups even nations that believe if you don't think like them, worship like them you should not exist. You don't find very many Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines coming home after seeing what is going on first hand saying we shouldn't be there, quite the contrary.

The US Military is currently made up of about one half of one percent of the American people. Those serving in todays military come from all walks of life, rich and poor - ALL volunteers. The draft will not happen as we are still turning away half of those people who want to volunteer for reasons of aptitude, medical or past moral situations. So sit back and relax my CS friends, we got your back.
