1965 U.S. Military Basic Pay Charts
Enlisted members received a pay raise of between 11% to 12.7%, and officers received between 6% to 22% raise depending on their Pay Grade and time in service as a result of the legislation that produced Public Law 89-132.

The law also added a provision that Servicemembers would enjoy free postage from combat zones; it states, "Any first-class mail matter admissible to the mails as ordinary mail matter which is sent by any member of the Armed Forces from--
- Vietnam, until such time as the President determines that Vietnam is no longer an area in which members of the Armed Forces are engaged in combat, and
- any other area or areas in which the President determines members of the Armed Forces are engaged in combat, to any person in the United States (including Puerto Rico or any possession of the United States) shall be transmitted in the mails free of postage, subject to such regulations as the Secretary of Defense may prescribe after consultation with the Postmaster General."
The United States military pay scales below became effective on September 1, 1965 and continued to be in effect until June 30, 1966. It is the basic pay amounts for the active components of the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard.
The pay rates are monthly, US dollar.

NOTE 1. Pay Grades O-9, O-10 and Fleet Admiral(O-10) received an additional "Personal Money Allowance" of $41.67, $183.33 and $333.33, respectively. While in Pay Grade O-9, serving as a member of the United Nations, the Personal Money Allowance of $225.00 was authorized. The Chief of Naval Operations pay, $2140.20, regardless of time in service.
E pay scale is Enlisted, W scale is Warrant Officer, O scale is Commissioned Officer.
