Senate Announces 2009 Defense Bill

May 1st, 2008

Today, May 1, 2008, the Senate’s Armed Services Committee announced it’s newly drafted defense authorization bill which would authorize $612.5 billion in fiscal 2009. The measure would authorize a 3.9 percent pay raise for U.S. military personnel, a half percentage point more than President Bush sought in his budget request.

I am sure the proposed 2009 military pay raise and defense spending in general will be a major issue as the national elections draw closer. Should be a fun ride so stay tuned to NavyCS for your up to date military pay information!

Killerpings

January 2nd, 2008

Back in November I wrote a recommendation about a company I have done business with for almost 3 years. Up until just the last couple of days the recommendation was well deserved. NavyCS has operated a 15 person Counter-Strike game server hosted by Killerpings.com

It appears on January 1, 2008 at 0001 hours (not sure what time that is? Check out my new military time chart!) Killerpings shut down all the servers and hit the road with all the money!
I have not received any communication from Killerpings - (Read the rest of the story…)

Life Without Reilly

November 30th, 2007

Today I opened the mail box and had that weekly moment of joy come over me, much like the joy you get when the fresh made brownies are ready to come out of the oven - my Sports Illustrated arrived! Just like I do every week I go into the house, grab a class of coke and sit in my favorite chair. (Read the rest of the story…)

Announcing the fact that the old and ugly forum of NavyCS has upgraded to a more functional platform and mirrors the theme of the rest of the web site (well, mostly true - I have to complete the gallery next :)). (Read the rest of the story…)

2008 Military Pay Update

September 18th, 2007

Should have gotten around to posting this a few days ago, sorry for the delay! On September, 11th of all days the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee approved a spending bill of $459.6 billion for fiscal 2008. The bill included a number of reduced amounts proposed by the President for certain weapons programs but did increase the amount proposed for health care and a needed increase for military hospitals - overall a potential plus for military health care benefits. Dr Jekyll - Mr Hyde SEO Test

July 16th, 2007

Considering the statement in the article “Inside the Blackbox”,

“The sites with the 10 highest scores win the coveted spots on the first search page, unless a final check shows that there is not enough “diversity” in the results. “If you have a lot of different perspectives on one page, often that is more helpful than if the page is dominated by one perspective,” Mr. Cutts says. “If someone types a product, for example, maybe you want a blog review of it, a manufacturer’s page, a place to buy it or a comparison shopping site.”

I will be starting a test to see if/how advantage can be gained if an established niche site can quickly penetrate a completely different competitive niche site.

The test I have planned is simple enough. I put a online slots flash game on NavyCS in the gallery. Currently NavyCS receives about 800 searches a day pertaining to military based questions. NavyCS does not currently rank for “online slots” and there are about 3,020,000 pages in Google “competing” for the term. I do not see any diversity of results on the first 3 pages for “online slots”.

I will update this blog with results as they happen. Discussion about this test will take place in the SEO Test and Experimentation section of SEOChat.
