Navy Enlistment Bonuses Not What They Used To Be.

Active Duty Enlistment Incentives 2012 (Updated)

February 9th, 2012

Although our services continue to seek out applicants, many of you are finding it difficult, if not impossible, to join. With the economy what it is, and the services experiencing record breaking retention rates, it isn’t going to get any easier to find a way to serve your country as a Uniformed Member of our armed forces. The services standards for enlistment remain the same, but waivers for past indiscretions are much more unlikely, especially for past alcohol and/or drug offenses.

One indicator of how long the recruiting restrictions may last is to look at the scope of bonuses being delved out to those enlisting. When the manpower needs become more difficult to fill, the scope of ratings eligible for bonuses increases; likewise, when needs are “easy” to fill, the ratings eligible reduce. For instance the Loan Repayment Program, which in some previous years encompassed every rating, now, as of 1 Feb, just those enlisting into the Musician rating are potential benefactors.

I always recommend that you talk to a recruiter and get the right guidance based on your specifics, but don’t be surprised that if you require a moral waiver for past drug or alcohol offenses to enlist, you may be advised to start seriously pursuing a different career path because it is gonna be a while.

  2. NCCM(Ret) says:

    Mark,

For active duty, a person would have to leave for boot-camp before their 35th birthday.

  3. Don says:

    Hi,
Love your blog so useful and helpful. Thanks so much.
My daughter is in the Aircrewman program, she left RTC friday for Pensacola, how do I know if she qualifes for Bonus?
She signed up for 6 years starts Naccs dec 10th ,then A school.
    Any help would be great,
Thanks for you service and time.

  4. NCCM(Ret) says:

    Don,

Any and all enlistment bonuses that she would have been eligible for would be specifically spelled out in her enlistment contract. If there is not an enlistment bonus listed, then she will not be receiving one (The Aircrew Rescue Swimmer (AIRR) program has been eligible for a bonus — the regular Aircrew program has not)

  5. Nate Johnson says:

Does a CTT or a IS recive a EL Bonus?

    Nate

  6. NCCM(Ret) says:

    Nate,

No. Currently, only the rates and programs listed on this page ( http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2012/10/01/fy-2013-lrp-and-eb-update ) are eligible to receive an enlistment bonus.
