Today, Pause for a Moment and Remember

USS Cole

October 12th, 2011

Today, pause for a moment in memory of the 17 Sailors lost during the October 12, 2000, terrorist attack on USS Cole(DDG-67) in Aden, Yemen.

Along with those who lost their lives or injured, the memory I have of that day is the heroic way the crew fought to save their ship. A testament to their leadership and training. Never forget.

Thirty nine Sailors were injured by the blast; the following is Chief Taitt’s personal account of that day’s events.

CPO Taitt’s personal account is not only a great reminder, the video highlights great news: during her most recent of four deployments since returning to the fleet in April 2002, USS Cole crew has, “…boarded ten vessels, disrupted two pirate attacks, escorted three vessels through high piracy areas, provided food and water to more than 55 distressed mariners, and captured four pirates.”

    Outstanding!

    Vigilis,

Aye. The Cole gets the job done!
