New Experience

Just bought the tickets, there is no turning back now. On October 15, my wife and I will have the pleasure of seeing our first stage performance at the Orpheum Theatre, a touring professional theatre, located in Memphis.

The play is called Memphis, and it is a musical. At least it’s rock ‘n’ roll.

According to the Orpheum Web site, Memphis the Musical, a Tony Award winning musical, takes place in the underground dance clubs of Memphis during the 1950s, a time when the segregation of race was the norm and rock ā€˜n’ roll was just taking root. A thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love that was inspired by actual events, Memphis the Musical is about a white male radio disk jockey who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break.

Flight 93 Memorial

During the dedication of the memorial for the passengers and crew of United’s Flight 93, Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, gave a speech for the 10 year anniversary of 9-11 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Discharged Under DADT?

Did you get kicked out of the service under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) law? After the day the law is repealed, expected on 20 September, you will be eligible to get back in.

Veterans with an RE-4 discharge code, if it was received solely due to DADT, will be treated the same as any other Veteran that received an RE-1/RE-R1; unless there was any other misconduct that was a basis for the discharge, and/or if the discharge was not characterized as honorable.

Labor Day 2011, Need a Job?

Even with the national unemployment rate hovering at 9.1%, there are jobs available for those with the skills and education to fill them. In a lot of cases your prior military experience will fill the bill; companies are seeking Veterans with your skill set.

One such company is IAP Worldwide Services. IAP is currently seeking applicants for various positions within the United States and internationally. Here is a sampling of the positions IAP is looking to fill;

In the United States:

–Administrative assistant position in Fort Irwin, CA. You would need to be able to get a secret clearance, the job pays $28 an hour.
–Director, Operations and Power Systems position in Panama City, Florida.
–HVAC/Controls Technician position in Annapolis, MD.
–Electrician position in Washington, DC. You would need a top secret clearance.
