Former Navy Pilot Walks on the Moon

One Giant Leap

July 20th, 2009

Forty years ago today, 20 July 1969, former Navy pilot Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon. As he took his first step from the Apollo Lunar Module, he proclaimed, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Neil Armstrong, Commander of Apollo 11, was accompanied during the Apollo 11 mission by Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, Jr.. During the 8 day mission both Armstrong and Aldrin made the trek from the command module, piloted by Collins, to the moons surface in the Sea of Tranquility.
