I receive emails as a result of my attendance to the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class from the Fleet and Family Support Center Mid-South updating me on some of the various opportunities. The notice I got today is worth driving a long distance to attend!

The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will be presenting “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” on May 12, 2009. A free two and one half hour professional lecture for officers and senior enlisted who plan to leave the service in the next one to five years. Spouses are cordially invited.

During the presentation you will learn about your competition for finding a job, perceptions civilian employers have of military personnel, developing a plan for your job search, resumes, cover letters, broadcast letters, etc. Learn how employers read your resume. Understand networking and penetrating the hidden job market and preparing for and conducting a successful interview. Gain a valuable understanding of salary negotiations, benefit packages and even how to deal with rejection.

To clarify re: books mentioned in the quoted email below, participants
will complete a contact card and books will be mailed directly to them.

We have a wonderful once-a-year event coming up, and we’re asking for your help to get the word out. The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA, formerly TROA) will be presenting its superb “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” lecture on 12 May, at 8:00 a.m., in the Helmsman Complex Ballroom.

This top-shelf presentation is very beneficial for all those who may be contemplating retirement or separation within three years. It will be given by a retired colonel, now deputy director on MOAA’s national staff. The lecture is universally praised by audiences as, “up-to-date, hard-hitting, and sharply focused- a must see “, it is presented annually at over 150 military installations of all Services worldwide.

The lecture includes comprehensive information on resumes, cover letters, job search, networking, career fairs, interview techniques, salary negotiation, benefits packages, the current job market, and other relevant and important transition topics.

The presentation is geared toward officers, but those of all ranks, as well as spouses are warmly welcomed. All who attend will receive a free copy of the lecture’s companion book, also titled “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” an in-depth, all-in-one resource for the transition process.

The presentation complements our installation transition program. As transition ultimately becomes a part of every military member’s career, please use this as a “professional development” opportunity for your people – especially your officers and senior enlisted. We strongly encourage you to attend along with them!
