26 Years Ago Today
May 28th, 2009
It was a Saturday night, 23 April 1983, Luther and I stationed aboard the USS Forrestal and both made the trek from Mayport, FL to the Philadelphia shipyard for the FIDs service life extension program (SLEP) decided to head out and explore the South Jersey. Our ship had not been in the area but a few weeks and we were all still getting our bearings.
As we navigated one of the local road ways it became quite apparent that I was not going to be able to continue without a pit stop. My bladder felt as if it was going to burst. Luckily (Read the rest of the article…)

Question for Congressman Filner
May 22nd, 2009
I read “Memorial Day: Putting Our Troops and Veterans First” by Congressman Bob Filner. In it he describes a number of initiatives congress has completed which those of us who are/have served appreciate very much. I thank him and his colleagues for their actions.
One issue I do have with the article, (Read the rest of the article…)

May 1, 2009 was the first day you could submit your application via the VONAPP web site for the Post-911 GI Bill (911GIBill). It was on that day I filled out the remarkably easy to follow form, and submitted my request. Then I waited.
Today I received my answer via snail mail. (Read the rest of the article…)

Nuclear Lawyer
May 13th, 2009
My oldest Son, Tommy, is currently finishing up his internship for the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C. and tomorrow morning my wife and I will be driving there to pick him up (he wrecked his Mustang, whole other story…), bring him here to our home for the summer before he starts the next segment of his life, law school! Tommy has been accepted to law school at Penn State and is still waiting on replies for a couple of other schools in the Washington D.C. area. He is pretty excited to be going to Penn State, to my chagrin he didn’t even apply to U of Florida… he thinks Florida is too hot, GEEZ!
Anyway, Tommy sent me a copy of his application. His personal statement each school required is what caught my eye. As you may know he of course followed me around to all my duty stations (he attended three high schools for crying out loud) then (Read the rest of the article…)

2010 Defense Budget Released
May 7th, 2009
Today, President Obama released his proposal for the 2010 defense budget. The budget proposal is usually released by a president during the month of February which allows enough time for debate in congress and signature into law by the beginning of the next fiscal year. With this late release I am concerned we may see another year that military members will have a delay in pay much like that of 2008 where pay had to be retroactively paid back.
DoD Releases Fiscal 2010 Budget Proposal
President Barack Obama today sent to Congress a proposed defense budget of $663.8 billion for fiscal 2010. The budget request for the Department of Defense (DoD) includes $533.8 billion in discretionary budget authority to fund base defense programs and $130 billion to support overseas contingency operations, primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan….
Support for the Troops and Their Families
The fiscal 2010 base budget proposal includes $177.5 billion (Read the rest of the article…)

NIA Update Number Two
May 4th, 2009
The latest NavyCS Industrial average (NIA) is 3035.35, a 36.9% gain since the starting date of March 9, 2009.
The NIA because we, Bonnie and I, think each one of us should have a plan for distributing a portion of our funds to charities. Remember, a downturn in the economy does not equal a downturn in the need for charities support!
Before the opening bell this morning I have about 30% of the NIA in cash waiting on another pull back in the market. The current stocks include; BP Inc (BP:NYSE), General Electric (GE:NYSE), Synovus Financial Corp (SNV:NYSE) and Intel Corp (INTC:NASDAQ).
Some great news concerning Soldier’s Angels – they are now a part of CFC! (Read the rest of the article…)
