MEPS Confirmation ASVAB Test

ASVAB Confirmation Test

February 20th, 2009

For some time now I have been getting email questions regarding the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), specifically about the confirmation test and what is it about. I answered each question confidentially and tailored the answer to the individual, I will continue to do that, but those questions prompted me to put the regulation into, hopefully, an understandable way. So here it goes! (Remember, the AFQT score is what is used to indicate your aptitude for service; it is not, by itself, the score used to determine what Navy job you may qualify for – that is what the ASVAB line scores are used for.)

Confirmation testing applies to any person who was given a retest on any version of the (ASVAB) who’s ASVAB score increased 20 AFQT points or more than their previous test score, and the two tests are taken within 6 months of each other, they are required to take the confirmation test. If 6 months passed from the date of the retest then the confirmation test is not required no matter what the AFQT point increase may have been. The rule applies regardless if it was an enlistment or a student ASVAB when deciding if a confirmation retest is required.

Confirmation testing cannot be given at a school or MET site, it will only be conducted in the MEPS and it is a full version containing all sections of the ASVAB.

If you fall into the above rule, and you complete a confirmation test, your AFQT from the confirmation test must be compared to the previous test. If your confirmation test AFQT is higher than the AFQT from the previous test, or the AFQT from the confirmation test does not decrease by more than half the value of the retest’s gain, then you have met the required criteria for a successful confirmation test. The results from the test that made you take the confirmation test in the first place becomes the score you will use for enlistment, not the confirmation test score.

If your confirmation ASVAB test AFQT goes down more than half of your initial point increase (retest AFQT minus previous test AFQT), you will be required to complete a confirmation interview.

An example; If you got a 33 AFQT on the first test and two months later you take a retest and score a 59 AFQT. Because the test was within 6 months the 26 point increase of your AFQT will require you to take a confirmation test (unless you wait 6 more months). If on the confirmation test you scored a 45 AFQT which is 14 points less than the retest AFQT (greater than half of the 26 point increase) – you will require the interview.

The interview will determine the cause of the anomaly and scores associated with the confirmation test are held from further processing pending results of that interview.

If you are required to take the Confirmation ASVAB Test and refuse to go to the MEPS to take it, you will no longer be allowed to take the pencil and paper ASVAB tests. If you refuse to return for the confirmation interview, you must wait 6 months for further processing from the date of the confirmation test. After the 6 month wait, you may voluntarily retest at the MEPS or process using your last valid test score (the score that prompted the confirmation test would not be a valid test unless you did take the confirmation test).

Hope this helps, feel free to ask questions!

I read through all comments, can you retake the asvab as much as you want?..but if you do pass around at anytime you would be taking it,would they be able to accept you and do paper work or process things as they follow?

  2. NCCM(ret) says:

    CNOA,

Your friend would have to wait six months from the last school test before he can take another test. If you pass the ASVAB and you are otherwise qualified, the recruiter would continue your processing.

  3. John says:

Sorry for the bother but I’m very confused i took my asvab on
July 6 2010 that’s on a Tuesday i fail so i had to wait 6 months to retake it which i did, on January 7th 2011 i took the asvab i score a 75 AFQT, my recruiter said i need a confirmation test i ask you and you was right i did not need one MEPS said the test was good. I took my physical i pass everything but i couldn’t enlist cause they said i “had high blood pressure” which i don’t due to all the aggravation i decided not to enlist, my recruiter now said the 75 AFQT score is good for two years he called me today saying i might have to take a confirmation test i don’t see why i should if MEPS said the test was good before why should they give me a confirmation test wouldn’t they have that on file? I did waited the six months they said before the 75 AFQT was good before. and my second issue is like they said i “had high blood pressure” i went to my doctor to take my blood pressure 3 days in a row twice everyday my doctor stamp the paper work i have no high blood pressure i also had to write a on paper all the activities that i do so they can give it to MEPS whats that all about? My recruiter said i have to retake the Physical that cool by me. Can you explain all this to me so i can understand thanks

  4. NCCM(ret) says:

    John,

If you did need a confirmation test, the MEPS would not have given you the physical – MEPS will only give you a physical if you have a valid test, which you must have. They WILL NOT give you a physical if you require a confirmation test, so you shouldn’t worry about that.

To complete your physical, you need to your submit blood pressure readings to the MEPS, via your recruiter; the MEPS will review the readings, and if they are within the standard, they will allow you to return to the MEPS to complete your physical (you do not do the whole physical again unless it has been two years since you were there the first time). Once you get to the MEPS, they will check your height and weight, and check your blood pressure – if you pass, then you will pass the physical.

  5. Rick says:

I got a couple of questions. I took the confirmation last Thursday and I didn’t do well. My first test was 22, the second 42 so that’s right at 20 points and the confirmation was 27. My question is, are they (MEPs) going to give me an interview? Or do I have to wait 6 months. How long after taking the confirmation test is my recruiter going to let me know when I’m going to have an interview? I called him today and he told me he hasn’t heard from MEPs.

  6. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rick,

You require the interview by instruction because your confirmation test score dropped more than 50% of the original gain (greater than 10 points), but because the 42 would more than likely be made invalid because of the point decrease, I suspect they are not going to complete the interview and just make you wait the 6 months in an effort to save man-hours. That is my guess as to why an interview has yet to be scheduled – usually, it is completed just after the test if needed.

I could be wrong, it’s a good chance that I am, and they may schedule you for the interview – I hope you let us know.

  7. Rick says:

Thank you. Btw it’s for the Army, would it make a difference?

  8. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rick,

ASVAB procedures are the same for all services.

  9. Rick says:

Does my recruiter need to call MEPs and schedule an interview? Or does MEPs calls my recruiter?

  10. sheilla22 says:

I just hear from my recruiter today that I will be going to meps to do the interview. I had an 18 the first time then 2nd time I have a 61 both of these were the paper versions. I took the confirmation test and score a 15 sadly… Does anyone know what types of question they ask at the interview and what is my chances of gettin qualify to join. Thank you

  11. Rick says:

My recruiter also called me today (2-8-12) I got an interview this Friday.
If you (sheilla22) already went throughout the interveiw, could you let me know what questions they asked you.
    Thanks.

  12. sheilla22 says:

My interview is tomorrow which is Friday. So let me know how you do

  13. Rick says:

Ok, I also have it tomorrow around 1pm. Ass soon as I’m done I’ll let you know.

  14. sheilla22 says:

Mine is at 10 am. I will keep u updated if I’m done before you.. did your recruiter give you any do and don’t because mi don’t really know any info since he never have anyone do an interview before

  15. Rick says:

Not really but I read that they are just going to ask how you did so well on the second test and how all of a sudden your score dropped. You should just tell them that you studied really hard. Don’t tell them that your recruiter helped you in anyway to pass, also that the interview is about 15 to 20 min long, just be yourself and tell them the truth and how you got to the right answers.

    Wish you the best luck.

  16. sheilla22 says:

Thank you. Good luck to you also

  17. sheilla22 says:

Well I went to the interview today after waiting for 5 hours I finally get to talk to someone. The questions wer pretty basic like the dates of the tests, what did I use to improve my score. However they did not give me a decisions whether I have to retest or get accepted with my previous score. I still have to wait on the navy commander to call my recruiter

  18. Rick says:

Oh ok thank you. Too bad my interview got canceled today, now I have to wait till tuesday witch I’m anxious to get it over with. Well I hope the accept you in and everytging goes well for you and again thank you.

  19. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rick and Sheilla22,

I hope both of you come back and let us all know how your interview concluded; the more details the better because I know there will be a lot of folks in the future who would like to learn from your experience when they read this post and comments.

    Thank you, both.

  20. Rick says:

Ok so I went to MEPs and had the confirmation interview, all i had to do is go in a room with a MEPs personal and answer a couple of questions. 1 if I cheated, 2 what did I do to improve my score witch I hired a tutor, so then he made me sign a paper and he said (ok go back to your liaison) so I did and they told me that I got to keep my second score. So now I’m going to my recruiters office tomorrow and try to sign up.

  21. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rick,

Great news, congratulations! Thank you for coming back and updating us.

I hope the rest of your journey through the process goes a lot smoother for you.

  22. Rick says:

    Thank you.

  23. Rick says:

Well now I am in the Army Reserve, I swore in yesterday and I must say, I felt (and still do) so proud and excited to join. I start BCT sept 24, 2012.

Just wanted to thank you for giving me information for what I needed. I’ll come once in a while if anybody has any questions.

  24. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rick,

    Outstanding; congratulations!

  25. sheilla22 says:

I did the interview last Friday and the navy personal told me that she would have to get my interview approve by the meps commander, I waited 4 hours before they told me the commander wasn’t available. I have been waiting a week now and my recruiter told me he haven’t hear anything yet

  26. NCCM(ret) says:

    Sheilla22,

The MEPS would have the answer by now – on Tuesday, have your recruiter contact the Navy Liaison at the MEPS to have them run the answer to ground.

  27. Darren says:

My bad after u take the asvab for the recruiter do u gotta take another test to get into the army

  28. NCCM(ret) says:

    Darren,

I assume you mean the short test that the recruiter may give you in his office? That test does not count for enlistment – it gives you an idea how well you may do on the actual ASVAB. The ASVAB is a test that can take around 2 and a half hours to complete – once you take and pass the ASVAB, you do not have to take it again, as long as you join and leave for boot-camp before it expires (within 2 years of taking the test).

  29. Darren says:

I gotta another question does the asvab for dummies really work

  30. NCCM(ret) says:

    Darren,

I put all my thoughts about ASVAB books and studying into this post >>> http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2010/12/28/preparing-for-the-asvab

I hope it answers your questions and provides some useful guidance.

  31. sheilla22 says:

Well I just receive the bad news today that meps ddnt aprove my interview and I have to wait 6 months to test again. I’m not sure if I can take the paper test again? Or if I have to test at meps for every test or until the next 2 years???

  32. izzy says:

guys i think my recruiter is a liar cause it’s been almost a month now since february 13/2012.he said that he sent the paper to MEPS so i can get an interview cause i did do well on my confirmation test so what you guys think i should do?should i change recruiter?
give me a goood advice please.

  33. NCCM(ret) says:

    Izzy,

If you did well on the confirmation test, you don’t need an interview.

  34. sheilla22 says:

Don’t worry about it Kuz I had to wait 3 months until I gt an interview so just keep calling and reminding your recruiter. The more you nag him the faster he will work for you and if u did well on ur confirmation you don’t need an interview. They would jus say u ready to start enlistment process

  35. Rachel says:

Okay so I took the asvab test about a month ago and scored a 30. I take it again next week and am super nervous because joining the navy is my one dream! If I do score a 50 or higher I have to do a confirmation test? My recruiter hasn’t told me anything about this part. I’m confused:/
I don’t wana have to retest after next weeks test if I do pass.
    Any help please, thank you!(:

  36. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

If you do score twenty points higher, then you would need to take a confirmation test, BUT PLEASE don’t worry yourself about it – do your very best on the test; every section, every question!

    Kick that test’s butt!

  37. Rachel says:

    Thank you!!!
Another question is do you know how they score the test, to where they know if you passed or not?

  38. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

There are four sections of the test used to determine your over all AFQT score, those are AR, MK, PC and WK (WK and PC make up the VE score in the formula). The formula, 2VE + AR + MK produces your raw score, and that raw score is compared against a chart based on the test version you took to determine the actual QT. The official scoring and calculations are completed at the MEPS.

Oh, more on the ASVAB ->> http://www.navycs.com/asvab-test.html

  39. Rachel says:

Alright thank you! I’m just trying to figure out how I scored a 30!!! I honestly cried when I found out I didn’t pass it but I didn’t study as much as I should have. Now I have 3 different books and study 5 hours a day. I’m literally determined.

  40. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

Just make sure you get a good night sleep before the test – if when your test date comes up, and you don’t yet feel ready to kick it’s butt, then hold off on taking it until you do feel confident. Here is a few paragraphs describing my thoughts on getting ready for the test – http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2010/12/28/preparing-for-the-asvab

  41. sheilla22 says:

From my past nightmares experience with that test if I were you I would wait the 6 months period before I take it again. Worse case senario you pass the test with a 50 or higher you would do a confirmation and if you don’t do well on that then here come the interview. So just be patient and study for the 6 months and go take it. Good luck

  42. Rachel says:

So I took the military.com test that was hours long and my AFQT score was 112, but then I compared it to the percentile chart and it said I got a 1%?? That doesn’t sound right lol

  43. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

Must be a miscalculation. I am unfamiliar with the military.com test, and cannot vouch for it’s accuracy.

  44. Rachel says:

So I have my high school diploma! Does this mean my qualifying score for the navy is a 35 but they want me to strive for a 50?
Because I know you need a 50 if you have a GED, but I have a high school diploma. My recruiter said a 50 but yet I don’t have a GED?

  45. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

Right now, the Navy is not taking anyone with a GED – no matter what their score may be. The minimum score required by instruction is a 35QT with a HS diploma, but many districts are requiring a 50QT minimum so the applicant will have a better shot at qualifying for the jobs that may be available.

  46. Rachel says:

Yeah I just talked to my recruiter he said he doesnt want me to
settle for less to strive for a 50 or higher for a better job(:
Thank you for replying and helping me out, I appreciate it!

  47. Rachel says:

So if I score a 35, they can still take me right?

  48. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

They can still take you with a 35QT, as long as the local district has not raised the minimum score above that – each recruiting district has the power to raise standards beyond what is in the nationwide instruction. And in the current recruiting environment, many districts have raised standards beyond the minimum. Your recruiter will know the local policy much better than I.

  49. Rachel says:

Yeah I take the test Wednesday and I really hope I get a qualifying score! The first time I honestly didn’t study because I thought I was going to pass, BUT I didn’t. Ive been studying for a month, havent gone out and got rid of all the distractions!!So I’ve been studying with the ASVAB for Dummies book! Let’s hope this pays off(:

  50. Rachel says:

So I took my test today at an Air Force Base, and the lady gave us a raw score and I scored a 38. She said she was going to send our tests out to MEPS to be scored. I’m 12 points away from a qualifying score, do you think my score will go up considering the fact that harder math problems are worth more points or no?

  51. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

Usually, the unofficial score the tester gives is very close, if not right on, to what the official score will be.

  52. Rachel says:

    Oh, okay!(:
Can I call around to see if other districts bumped up their qualifying score? Just to see if anyone can still accepte with a 35.
Also, can I use my score for other branches, like the marines? I know you need a 35 with them. Thank you!(:

  53. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

That score is good for two years, and for all services – unless you take the test again.

Right now, and more than likely, you will find all the districts with a similar score requirement – your recruiter should be able to some indication as to the likelihood of if and when you may be getting a spot.

  54. Matthew St Roch says:

Here am I again,my recruiter has received my foreign transcripts from the college in my home country. he told me that he has sent it up to the education specialist to be verified and Evaluated, more so i do understand the process of verification to the USA Standards. He told me he should receive a response within one week after sending my transcripts in. I did give him a call after that one week and he told me he has not received any word from the specialist yet and more so it could take me up to several weeks before receiving any word from them.

I don`t wanna say i distrust my recruiter words but more so i wanna seek a second opinion as to how long would this take to process as its military. everything seems Good so far he told me but I don`t wanna waste time. where can i look up information on credential to be evaluated in terms of military recruitment?
i wanna know if i may get a good job with a score of 57……..

  55. NCCM(ret) says:

    Matthew,

Your foreign education will be reviewed by the Education Specialist at Navy Recruiting Command – depending on his schedule, it could take some time, but shouldn’t be more than a week, two weeks max.

The jobs you may qualify for depend on the various line score of your ASVAB – the QT score is used for overall qualification purposes. Hopefully, this page will explain that in much more detail –> http://www.navycs.com/asvab-test.html

  56. sheilla22 says:

Waiting game thats what the military is

  57. Rachel says:

I’m in a sticky situation. I took my ASVAB for the second time a week ago and get my results later today I believe, I did my best and I am hoping I did well. If I didn’t I have the chance to retest next month BUT it will be my last chance, then have to wait 6 more months. I’m nervous I can take the test again, but what if I score lower? Then I’m pretty much left option less, unless I join the army BUT the navy is my dreams. The other girls and I are trying to find ASVAB tutors in our local area, we’ve tried to contact our recruiter since Friday and he hasn’t responded to any of us. We’re pretty frustrated, I’ve been at this since November, and the last thing I want to do is give up. Do you know if local schools have tutoring for the test? I’d rather someone teach me than me going online and trying to teach myself stuff I don’t understand.
    Thank you a lot!(:

  58. NCCM(ret) says:

    Rachel,

I am not familiar with any organized ASVAB classes. Maybe your local college has remedial math and English classes you can take?

  59. Jose morales says:

Question… I took the test the second time and passed it 20 point higher…went to meps and took the confirmation test and didn’t pass it…went to the interview and they me I had to wait 6 month… So I did all that I went back to the recruiters office to see when I can take the test agin. They pull up my file I have with them on there computer and they told me there nothing on there that says I took the test the second time or that I even went to meps or had an interview done…im not sure what’s going on

  60. Jose morales says:

What happens if I I just finish waiting 6 month after not passing the confirmation test and going trough the interview and my texture pull up my file I have with them on there computer and my recruiter tells me there’s nothing on file that u took a second time test, no meps confirmation, or if I did the interview…does this mean I can the test either computer or paper…I’m not sure what’s going on…

  61. alexey says:

Hi guys ..2 years ago i took my first aswab test for army , and i scored 14 , then about 50 days ago i,v got the same score. Yesterday i took computer test ( first 2 was pencil and paper ) and i scored 54 AFQT and over 110 for most qualification skills like FL CL GT MM blah blah blah … But thing is I really study hard and they don’t believe me , really upset and down !!!! So how big is the chance they let me use my previous score ?
    Thanks for answer .

  62. NCCM(ret) says:

    Alexey,

It depends on how well you do on the confirmation test.

  63. sheilla22 says:

So they still want you to do a confirmation test even after 2 tears???? I thought anything you took 2 years ago it becomes available. This is kind of confusing

  64. NCCM(ret) says:

    Shiella22,

According to what he wrote, he took the test the first time (2 years ago) and got a 14QT, then took the test 50 days ago and got another 14QT – then just yesterday, he got a 54QT.

  65. patricia says:

i took the the asvab in Jan.2009 and i scored a 41, i then retook it on April 1,2012 because my test expired i scored 20 points higher then my test in 2009< and now im being told that i have to take a confirmation test because i scored high. why do i have to take a confirmation test if my old score expired?

  66. NCCM(ret) says:

    Patricia,

If you waited greater than six months from your previous test, then you do not require a confirmation test because of your score differential.

  67. alexey says:

guys just came back from my confirmation test , i got AFQT 30 ! Word knowledge screwed me , last time was 54 now 22 , but other section at the same level , so basically WK destroyed me , now i gotta go for interview , and idk what to say , problem is : English is not my first language , so last time got questions at WK section , and o knew answers , well this time i didn’t have that luck , was really hard words….really upset….will see

  68. Matthew St Roch says:

    HEY,
I AM AT THIS STAGE NOW WHERE MY SECURITY CLEARANCE AND BACKGROUND CHECK FORM 86 HAS ALREADY BEEN FILLED OUT AND SUBMITTED TO MY RECRUITER. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CARRY OUT A BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE GOING TO MEPS? MY RECRUITER WANTED ME TO SUBMITTED THE FORM ON A MONDAY AND SAYS TO ME THAT WITHIN THREE DAYS OF SUBMISSION HE WILL TAKE ME DOWN TO MEPS. NOW ITS ALMOST ONE WEEK SINCE I HAVE DONE SO AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANY WORD YET FROM MY RECRUITER………

MY RECRUITER ALSO ADVISE ME TO JOIN THE NAVY RESERVE INSTEAD OF GOING TO ACTIVE DUTY……..I AM A BIT SKEPTICAL OF GOING NAVY RESERVE SINCE IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO TRANSITION INTO ACTIVE DUTY…..HE ALSO MENTIONED TO ME OF “FULL TIME RESERVE” WHICH IS ALMOST LIKE BEING ON ACTIVE DUTY, I WOULD WANT TO KNOW WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS AND BENEFITS THE WEIGHT OUT THE TWO. WOULD I STILL BE ABLE TO USE THE EPOST 9/11 GI BILL AND MONTGOMERY BILL? I NEED SOME MORE INFORMATION ON BEING FULL TIME RESERVE OVER ACTIVE DUTY. MORE SO WOULD I BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE MY CITIZENSHIP WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME FOR ACTIVE DUTY WHILE SERVE IN THE NAVY RESERVE(FULL?

  69. NCCM(ret) says:

    Matthew,

You would need to ask your recruiter what the hold up is – I would have no idea why you are not scheduled for MEPS already.

The Full Time Support (FTS) are members of the reserve who serve full time, they are just like active duty members as they enjoy all the benefits of serving full time, including the GI Bill. The GI Bill is also available to the Reserve members who are serving part time, it is just that they do not enjoy the same amount of benefit – look at the “military benefits” link in the sidebar, it shows a chart of how much benefit as a result of time in.

If you do get an FTS rating, it will be specifically labeled as such when you join.

  70. alexey says:

ok finally my recruiter had call me , my first interview at MEPS in the and of Apr. , (quick) My recruiter told me that they will let me keep my previous score ,( base on: only at WK section was big drop ) it’s just they wanna know what’s going on , if cheat or i knew answers…can’t wait ! If something comes up , I will post here ! And goodluck to everyone !

  71. Kod says:

I took my first and second savab test’s about a year ago and i failed so i came back to my recruiter and told him that i want to take my asvab for the third time and he said that if i make 20 point higher then i am going have to take the confirmation test. How is it possible that so much time passed and i still have to take my confirmation test if i pass the test

  72. NCCM(ret) says:

    Kod,

If 6 months has passed since your last test, then you would not require a confirmation test.

  73. Jose morales says:

Its been 8 month since ive taking the confirmation test and the interview….now im ready to take the test agin….do i have the choice to take the paper or computer test?

  74. NCCM(ret) says:

    Jose,

That decision is made by the MEPS at the time of the interview; your recruiter may know or can find out for you.

  75. Jose morales says:

Ok sounds good thanks….now does that also apply even if i decided to wait two years

  76. NCCM(ret) says:

    Jose,

If two years pass, then when you take the ASVAB, it is like taking it for the very first time, so, no, that test after waiting two years, would not be restricted in any way.

  77. Jose morales says:

Thank alot sir your info is very helpful

  78. sheilla22 says:

When it comes to the asvab paper test how often does they change the test or does it remain the same?

  79. NCCM(ret) says:

    Sheilla22,

There are a number of paper versions; about every 5 years or so they will retire a series of versions and institute another series – the format is the same but the questions will be different.

  80. Matthew St Roach says:

Hey, I am Currently Enlisted into the DEP Program and a waiting period of 6 months. I have also read a lot on being in the DEP and saw that its an open contract by which I can drop out any time seeing that i am not getting any military pay or have to drill, etc. I have also read about ELS=Enlistment level Separation and the process that it takes to do so. I write this to say that am in doubt on joining the Navy after being Enlisted into a PACT AIRMAN Apprenticeship Program for which I going in UN-designated. I have heard a lot more negative than positive statement in being in that program. I have a Four year Active Duty Enlistment and Four years in the Navy. I have read the contract and i firmly understand what I am getting into. There are so many thing that my recruiter did not talk to me about even when I question Vs Research on what i have done, lives Doubt in my mind.

there are few Questions i would like to ask:

Does being in the apprenticeship programs qualify some one in getting college credits?

how can i opt out of a job in the apprenticeship program if I dislike?

Does being or doing a particular job in the Apprenticeship program provide Certification or are you Eligible to go to A-school?

How long can someone stay in the apprenticeship program?

As i may have read, some one can strike for a rating he/she qualifies for after being in the apprenticeship program after 1.5 -2years, does that mean that after I have strike for a Rating or having a designated job for which i may become qualified, does that Extend by 4 years Active duty enlistment contract?

Being Enlisted as an E3, I was told that I can be Advance to E4 in four(4) or six (6) months even if I am in the apprenticeship program. how is this process possible?

Currently I am not a US Citizen and I know the limitations in getting security clearance and h=getting a good rating further more how soon while on Active duty can i apply for Citizenship?

I have done numerous research plus your forum has been a plus for me in getting to know the pitfalls and mishaps in getting into the military. after my third week in boot camp I have read that I can review my job listings, Does this provide an opportunity to strike for a rating? this is just an open question out of thought because once you have sign the final Enlistment contract, that is the final of final.

On the day to be shipped to boot camp before signing the final contract, If the job i have signed up for is not available or none of the jobs available i don`t like, can I refuse to join or don`t sign the contract? I have read that the military can order you to active duty.

One the day at MEPS to be shipped, can i still strike for a designated job?

    Thanks for you Response…………

can I thwart my Active Duty Enlisitment and go into FTS even if I am in DEP?

    Matthew,

Keep in mind, all enlisted members in the Navy has a specific rating, those who do not must get into one – the Navy wants you to be in one within two years—MAX.

I will attempt to answer your questions:

Does being in the apprenticeship programs qualify some one in getting college credits?

Yes, no matter what program you join for, there is an opportunity for college credit; for example, you could get physical education credits for attending boot-camp. But, no matter what credits you may earn, it is still up to the college that you apply to to except them. For example, Harvard University may not except credits that a local Community College would except.

how can i opt out of a job in the apprenticeship program if I dislike?

You complete the rating requirements for the rating you want to take the advancement test for (of course you have to be otherwise fully qualified) and have permission to take that advancement test – some ratings may be closed to because of over-manning issues, etc.

Does being or doing a particular job in the Apprenticeship program provide Certification or are you Eligible to go to A-school?

Some ratings require an “A” school before you can convert to it.

How long can someone stay in the apprenticeship program?

The Navy’s goal is to have you in your rating before you hit the two year point.

You have up to two years to get into a rating; you should be striving to be in a rating the minute you figure out which one you want. If you wait two years to do that, you will “miss the boat”, as they say.

Being Enlisted as an E3, I was told that I can be Advance to E4 in four(4) or six (6) months even if I am in the apprenticeship program. how is this process possible?

Complete the test requirements and gain permission to take the advancement exam. When you get to your first command, get to work getting yourself approved to take the exam.

This is a question you need to pose to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

It doesn’t provide an opportunity to “strike” for a rating, it provides an opportunity, if a rating is available that you qualify for and that you want, for you to be given a contract that will send you to that “A” school after boot-camp.

On the day to be shipped to boot camp before signing the final contract, If the job i have signed up for is not available or none of the jobs available i don`t like, can I refuse to join or don`t sign the contract? I have read that the military can order you to active duty.

You can refuse to ship to boot-camp. There is not a legal action that will be taken beyond discharging you from the Delayed Entry Program – it is NOT an entry level separation. If you are discharged from the DEP, you would require a waiver to rejoin.

One the day at MEPS to be shipped, can i still strike for a designated job?

Striking for a job is something you do after boot-camp; if you have your contract changed to an “A” school before you ship, or while you are at boot-camp (third week), it is the same as having the rating made part of your contract the first day you go to MEPS.

    Matthew,

No, you cannot switch to FTS without being discharged first. If you get discharged from the DEP, you require a DEP discharge waiver to gain reentry. DEP discharge waivers are not always granted; it really depends on the circumstances; ie., if it was a medical DEP discharge (like you broke a leg), then getting the DEP discharge waiver is fairly routine, but refusing to obligate can be a different story.
