USAA Email Scam
January 10th, 2009
Be on the look out for one of the latest scam emails making its way around. There are more than likely other variants of the same but they all attempt to do one thing – have you follow a link in the email and sign into your USAA online account so they can grab your info.
Here is one example I received today;
Account: USAA MasterCard
Date: 08/01/2009We’d like to inform you that your secure mailbox has 1 new message.
Please visit Online Banking and select the message section tab to read your message(s).
(The message center contains only important information about your account and online banking.)

Personally I never click a link sent to me in an email – even if it is sent by a friend of mine. If I otherwise think the email is legit I will still copy and paste the url into my browser, if the url looks foul then I delete it, if it looks to go where I think it should I will only then follow it to the destination. Sometimes you can just hover your mouse over the link to see the url but that doesn’t always work. Important thing is always know where you are going and NEVER give out your password.
