Miller,

The fact that it is full sleve makes it unlikely that it will get approved, but it is possible, so go to the recruiter and have him evaluate it to see if he would be able to forward for consideration.

Veryworried,

If you got those tattoos after the policy changed, you may not have any ground to stand on; otherwise, hopefully a waiver gets forwarded. What is your Chief saying?

I'm currently serving in the navy, but they are trying to separate me for a tattoo on the back on my neck...if I got this tattoo (less than an inch tall) AFTER I joined, can it be waived? Also they are trying to tell me that the tattoos on my forearms are too big. I have multiple tattoos on each arm, all of which can be covered by my hand...help?

Jacob,

I have known officers with tattoos. If your body art passes the waiver process to enlist, you would be eligible to apply for competitive programs, like STA-21, that you are otherwise qualified to enter.

I have heard that officers in the Navy cannot have tattoos, but my recruiter discussed STA-21 with me, knowing full well that I have a tattoo. It is a band around the top part of my forearm with the words John 16:33 inside. The only criterion that would need to be waived is the size. Is this going to be a problem?

Vincent,

I will not be calling.

If the tattoo is within the size criteria, the only thing I can think he may be assuming is that it is somehow offensive or related because otherwise it wouldn't even be a waiver based on the current instruction. I have added the current screening certificate (NAVCRUIT 1130/104) to the bottom of the post - print it out and ask him what part of it he thinks you fail.
