  • A very close friend died in the World Trade Center. I live near enough to the Pentagon that I saw the smoke. I know too many people who know someone who died in one of the attacks.

After the attacks I would drive by the Pentagon on a major road, seeing the destruction and then the repairs. The repair effort went remarkably fast. Bless the workers who went above and beyond the call of duty to repair the Pentagon in amazingly fast time.

My mom lived across the river from NYC within a short distance from a bluff that offered a fantastic view of the World Trade Center buildings and the lower Manhatten skyline. I had looked at that view for years. I felt a pit in my stomach the first time I looked at that view with the World Trade Center buildings missing. Of course they had dominated the view with their size.

It was a horrible day in America’s history. It is something to remember.
