Top Notch Disney SecurityMEDIC!May 29th, 2008Security at Disney is something they take very seriously. Thousands of people enter the various parks every day. The worlds climate for hate dictates that every one must remain vigilant. Some security measures I have noticed which hadn’t existed prior to 9/11 are things like increased video surveillance and coded tickets which are matched with your finger print each time you enter. One other inclusion into Disney’s security is the bag check once reserved for airports and federal buildings. Disney does have a better process - they have two lines, one for people with bags and one for the stream-lined traveler who is packed lite. My wife and I arrived at the Magic Kingdom about 20 minutes before it was to open - we wanted to get as much in as we could prior to our noon lunch reservations in Morocco over at EPCOT. So, we got off our boat and approached security - neither of us were carrying any bags so we approached the non-search line and then it struck me. Fred, wearing his Disney police uniform with a gold badge, was the “gate keeper”. Fred is a big burly gentleman who didn’t have a smile and rightly takes his job very seriously. He would closely survey every guess entering his portal - clearly assessing threats. With my wife at my side and a group of people around us I found it necessary to make an inquiry of Fred. It was a serious question, it was my part to ensure every one at the park on this day would have a safe and memorable stay. “Fred”, I asked directly while making a pointing gesture towards my wife, “Is it OK to enter here even though I am with this old bag?” I lost consciousness before I could count how many people were laughing at me while my wife beat me to the ground but it had to be over a hundred - even Fred had a smile. Oh, I love Disney! 1 Comment »
