We had 5 bf2 servers from them, some of them paid for 6 months in advance. Overall they took around $1,500 but paypal refunded it.

Thank goodness for Paypal! I figure I am out about $40. What a pain it is to switch server hosts, have to re-upload all the mods and maps. I am not a happy camper.
-
how did you get paypal to refund it? when I tried it told me that it could refund money for services

I am not recommending any host at this point – I thought Killerpings was great up until a couple of days ago.
-
It’s a shame when something like this happens. It gives the other reliable hosts a bad name. If you want a reliable affordable host that’s been around for years, then I would suggest the following sites.

Hey Navy!
This is Mojo formerly known as KP-Tom
I was a customer/employee and managed the entire web hosting department for KP for over a year. They were very selective about who knew what was going on. They had plans to sell KP to AOWC but it fell thru. KP-Mike knew KP was changing hands and informed at least one customer, but that was it. I had no clue what was happening as I was more or less on an island. I don’t know game servers and they didn’t really know web servers so there wasn’t much I needed from them & vice-versa.
Needless to say I am very pissed about the chickenshit way they went out. Someone knew a month ago there was a change coming and didn’t think enough of their employees and customers to give them a heads-up. 100′s of people lost game files & websites with no warning whatsoever.
I have a thread started at http://www.alliedwarclans.com if anyone is having trouble getting their money back post there. Maybe we can get enough folks for a class action. Unfortunately I lost it once when the servers went down and my last good backup was a few days earlier.
I hate that this happened and feel far worse for the customers losing their stuff far my than losing my own. Their shutdown has cost me out of pocket about 1,000.00 thus far. Nice FU 1 week after Christmas eh?
Best of luck to you Navy! Stop by my site any time bud.

Mojo formerly known as KP-Tom! Welcome to my blog!
I guess the timing for such a thing is never good. I had an affiliate link from my home page to Killerpings, sent nearly 500 “customers” to them – I would think a couple of them would have signed up – to those individuals if feel somewhat responsible. I have and never will recommend something unless I believe in it – I thought I knew Killerpings after nearly 3 years. Your response is the first I have seen from someone in-the-know and I thank you for it.
This event has put me on my heels. My biggest fear now is logging on to one of my web sites and finding my web host has decided to close up shop.

Hey Tom, I think you remember me. You helped me with VSP Stats for my ET server and a few other things. I am not out 1,000 like you are, just 85.00 which I paid the day before KP shut down.

Same here, I’m really pissed off they did this to me. But i seen it coming. They had more downtime then up timein the last few months.
I got sick of it and just before christmas “before my term was up with kp” I found a great provider emsgaming.com . He is Affordable & he is a gamer and has been around for 6 years. Great up time and ping times. he has 4 locations as well
He also has live hands on support . No ticket system. He has all his clients on msn, xfire, yahoo or even MIRC.

Thanks for the welcome Navy!
Like you, I too thought I knew these guys. I also sent 100′s of visitors a month to them thru my site, and referred many others thru direct communication.
Howdy Duke! Man if you need some help getting your stats going again, let me know. I’ll be glad to help.
If any KP customer that was affected by this needs help with their web services, stop by my site and ask. I’ve offered to help anyone and have already started putting up new sites for a few. I hate seeing clans getting fragged because of this. There’s no charge but, I do accept donations. =)

I am also one of the lucky ones who got took by Killerpings. No where near the amount that Mojo fka KP-Tom got took for.
Tom helped me with my server a few times and I must say it is nice to see him in here explaining a few things.
Good luck to you Mojo fka KP-Tom! -
My Killerpings CoD2 Servers(2) are still up and running! (Dallas).
Teamspeak server still runs but without Admin rights. Geez I wonder when the computers in Dallas will go down? FTP still works and I always keep a working copy of my files anyhow. Out Nothing Yet– It’s still UP!!.I resist the temptation to pay more than one month at a time to ANY gameserver outfit.

hello guys, this is Shadow of Death, also formerly known as a KP-Assistant, KP-Assistant Chris.
It is nice to finally get some closure. I know I pretty much walked out on KP about five months ago, but I sensed something was going to happen, and didn’t want to be part of it when kp “blew up”. I was the CSS/HL2 support tech for KP, and it was great, while it lasted. I was a KP tech for about 9 months before I walked out. I walked out pretty much because I wasen’t getting any tickets or anything, and didn’t see a need for me to be there. I’m sorry I left with out any closure, or explanation, but I just wanted to get the hell out of dodge when this shit went down, because i knew it was going to happen.
When I was a KP tech, Alec Kopman (CEO of KP) always talked about the new changes coming. He said that the new version of the KP website was going to be release in January of 2007, one year ago. After that didn’t happen, I asked him about it, and he said the summer of 2007. That didn’t happen either. After that I stayed with KP for about 2 more months, then I just walked. I told some lies as to what happened to me, such as I got in trouble at school, and my father took away my funds, and my computer. I’m only 17, going to be 18 in a couple of months, but I’m not as dumb as people think I am. When I sense something, I got with it. I don’t trust anyone except my father, and my best friends.
I just found out that KP closed today, when I tried to go back to their site. I was going to see how things were going, and apologize to chuck and alec for walking, but the site wasn’t up. So, I headed over to AIM, and say KillerPingsMike on. I asked him about it, and he blew up. He was like “I’m not telling you anything, you walked and said you never wanted to come back” or some shit. it is true, as clearly stated above, I did walk, but I never said I didn’t want to go back. KP was dying toward the end of last year. There were less and less new costumers every day. Then activity on the forum started going down, and Alec and Chuck never talked to anyone.
Well, enough rambling, I just really have one thing to say. I’m sorry for all the money you guys lost, and I estimate that the KP guys walked with at least 7k of cash that they didn’t provide for. It is ridiculous that someone would do this, and there should be a lawsuit brought up. I am glad that KP shut down though, because if they CEOs do something like this, I wouldn’t want that company running anymore.
Well, talk to you guys later.

They probably couldn’t refund the account, because KP took all the money out of the account, and RAN

I got more info on this, Right before killerpings shut down, a company by AAOC or AAOE was going to buy killerpings. maybe they knew that was gonna happen and planned to book it with the cash or went bankrupt.

KP didn’t run off with anyones cash. All the cash that KP had in their paypal account, went to pay off their debts with Giganet.com, which is estimated in the $26,000 range. Chuck Lowney is not at fault. The real dick is Alec Kopman co-director of KP. Alec disappeared off the grid when this shit was going down, possibly as a result of a falling out between Chuck Lowney, his wife, and Alec Kopman’s wife.
KP was working out a contract with AOWC (Art of War Central), which is owned and operated by former KP employee Steve Phallen. The contract was all ready, and the only thing that needed to be done was Alec Kopman needed to sign off on it. Alec refused to sign off on the contract. As a result Giganet.com shut down all of Killerpings hardware, and locked down the servers, because KP didn’t have enough funds to pay back Giganet. Chuck Lowney showed up at the datacenter, and tried to retrieve his hardware. The cops were called, most of Killerpings boxes were left at Giganet for collateral for the debts. Chuck Lowney got to leave with the dead servers, which was only about 5 or 6 out of KP’s estimated 45 boxes. No one involved with Killerpings pocketed any money for this ordeal. Steve Phallen said “Chuck lost more than Alec in the whole deal. I will put it that way.”
All above information above has been confirmed by Steve Phallen.
