Comcast Cable Rocks!IntermiternetNovember 27th, 2007Time-Warner CableMy experience prior to the recent takeover by Comcast of Time Warner - Road Runner cable in the Memphis area was sometimes nightmarish. For the last couple of years my home Internet connection has been acting up. I would occasionally lose connection or my connection would slow to what felt like dial-up speeds. I would run ping tests and see my ping at less than half of what I was paying for. I have called to complain about what I thought was line degradation only to be told to turn off my modem, wait 5 seconds then turn it back on. Sometimes I would have a signal back sometimes I would have to wait. I looked into changing to DSL but it was not available for me - if I moved the house 2 blocks over I could…that wasn’t happening. Overall my complaints fell on deaf ears and Roadrunner would not come to the house and test the lines. Comcastic! My experience with Comcast has so far been great! I called Comcast to report my same problem. The tech on the line pinged my modem and was able to see an intermittent connection - he immediately scheduled an appointment for the crew to come and find the problem! It didn’t take the crew long. A few problems were identified and fixed. First, the cable from the house to the junction box was only buried 2-6 inches below the ground (minimum is 18 inches) and there were nicks and kinks in the line from when I aerated the lawn (take small plugs of soil - helps the yard breathe). Also the connection at the junction box was stripped, appears at initial installation the cable wouldn’t fit right, the tech made it fit. The main amplifier supporting our neighborhood was over-driving our upload and weak on the download, by the time the download signal reached my house it was about 20 DBM, normal range is 24-35. Comcast has replaced the cable, cable connector and balanced the signal strength all from a single phone call complaint. No more Intermiternet, Memphis’ Comcast cable gets my vote!
