Google Welfare Reform

Google is Best Show in Town

November 20th, 2007

Lately, even more than usual, we have been inundated with forum and blog posts proclaiming disgust with Google. I have seen entire web sites remove their AdSense and even use the robots.txt to block Google’s spider from exploring.

I don’t understand it so I’ll take the opposing view.

Apparently there are no longer any sites being displayed on page one for any search. Lord, I hope it isn’t “Bar Envy”.

Google is an Internet advertising company

Always has been, always will be.

Google TVJust like television networks must ensure their programing entertains to hold and grows the customer base – search engines must do the same by ensuring the search produces the most logical result based of the term used by the customer. And just like television, search has it’s commercials.

Webmasters write, direct and produce the “entertainment” for the web. It is up to the Webmaster to convince the Network that their show is the best show for the time slot. If the Webmaster’s show isn’t entertaining it should get yanked off the air! If the Webmaster’s show makes attempts to bleed over good programing the show should be banned from the air!

Over the past couple of years I have seen Google open up and give us a small peek into the inter-workings and thought processes of what direction the company plans to go. From reporters being allowed in meetings to Matt Cutts’ blog the company is much more open to dialog than its competitors. I haven’t seen any surprises – all events of this past series of updates were forewarned.

Money is still being made on the Internet. It is projected that internet transactions and cash flow will increase over the next five years by as much as 35%. If you are not willing to change your product and delivery method based on the signs of the times then don’t be surprised if someday your living in a refrigerator box underneath a highway overpass.

Google’s Welfare Reform has begun.
