NavyCS started as an idea in 2003 as a way to test the success of in-game advertising for the United States Navy. The first server I ran for the purpose of the test was actually from my home CPU. To the right is what the original site looked like - my web site design skills left a lot to be desired. Counter-Strike 1.6 as a game platform was used because of the amount of gamers and the ease of placing advertisements within the maps played. I had contacted Valve Software who provided me server modification “rules” and map ideas. With help from JackieChad of AwesomeCS (the best run 1.5 and 1.6 servers EVER run) we built poster sprites to place into the maps we were to host.

The test was run for 3 months and proved to be very successful. In the end though Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) decided against the concept for various reasons including the violent game play and game endorsement issues. NRC didn’t give up on the on-line gaming idea and ultimately designed NTE: STRIKE AND RETRIEVE.

With the testing over I had a couple of problems. First, I really enjoyed meeting the people who started to become involved with NavyCS. Second, I wanted to attempt to conquer the art of website design and the science of search engine optimization. So in the end I was able to keep the web site, whooo hooo! And that is how my on-line journey began.

My home connection and CPU started to feel the strain. It was now time to find an inexpensive game server host. I searched far and wide (OK, I Googled) and found a number of hosting services. Killerpings.com had something most other companies didn’t have; a forum that had almost instant responses to questions - the forum also has an area that people who have a negative experience can share and the posts obviously are not edited! Each post is met with a timely response and “cure” to whatever was ailing the consumer.

I have now been a customer for last three years. I have had a couple of issues over that time but nothing they didn’t get fixed within minutes. How they are able to provide the great service and low pings at the prices they charge is beyond me.
