SEO Test - Content Placement

Content Placement Test Start

Design Effect SEO?

How important is the location of content on a page to the search engines?
How much (if any) does having a identical content header (links, basic site info) on your pages effect the content that follows?

Phase One – Initial Test Set-up

In my quest to seek understanding of search engine optimization I felt a test was in order to determine if the placement of content within the code can assist in the SERP result. The first part of the test has a link from a single page to 3 separate and identical pages with generic, non relevant anchor text. The only difference in each of the pages is where the identical h1 tag is located. The links to the pages are located on the same line from the test parent page, first link on the line is to the page with the h1 located at the bottom of the code just before the footer – second link is to the page with the h1 in the middle of the page and the third page has the h1 at the very top.

I will report findings as they become available.

Both Google and MSN only indexed one of the 3 pages and it was the page with the first link in the code of the page the test pages were linked from.
